Description

This piece was completed entirely en plein air on the third day of the retreat. The writing below reflects my intention for this painting. The bridge is worn and indifferent. It supports livelihoods and also the weary bodies of paddlers and seekers of beauty. It too has supported logging trucks, surveyors and speculators. The bridge has survived countless blizzards, floods and washouts, and yet it stands in constant witness to La Grande Chute of the Dumoine. The three main colours of the painting were selected to symbolize industries that represent the greatest threats to this watershed: Paynes Grey represents powerlines and hydroelectricity. Burnt Sienna represents the lumber industry. Cadmium Yellow represents mining and mineral extraction.
